Bora Wind
Helpful background, tips and explanations in detail.
The Bora is a strong, cold downslope wind from the north to northeast that occasionally affects the island of Pag and Zrce Beach. It occurs when cold air masses from the inland flow over the Velebit Mountains to the coast and can be gusty and intense.
At Zrce Beach, the Bora is primarily noticeable through choppy seas and cooler temperatures. The good news: Bora episodes are rare during the summer season and usually last only a few hours to a maximum of one to two days. After that, calm, sunny weather quickly returns.
So there's no reason to cancel your trip! In the rare cases when the Bora occurs in summer, simply use the break to relax, explore the old town of Novalja, or take a trip inland. By the next day at the latest, you can celebrate again at the beach.
