Cres
Helpful background, tips and explanations in detail.
Cres
On the way to or from Zrce Beach, a detour to the islands of Cres and Lošinj is worthwhile. Both islands are a great tip for anyone who loves nature, small harbor towns, idyllic beaches, and diving opportunities. Even though it can get quite crowded during the high season in the summer months, it is generally much quieter here than at the party beach Zrce. Our tip: Plan your route early and book accommodation in advance.
The island of Cres is – together with Krk – the largest island in the Adriatic. It is located in the north of the Kvarner Bay, is about 66 km long, and only 2 to 12 km wide. In the north, Cres can be reached by ferry from Brestova to Porozina, and in the south, the island is directly connected to Lošinj via a drawbridge in Osor. There is another ferry connection between Valbiska (island of Krk) and Merag. From Merag, it is only about 14.5 km to the town of Cres.
While the northern and eastern coasts of Cres are mostly rocky, bathers will find numerous bays with beautiful pebble beaches on the southern and western coasts. Historically, the island has been strongly influenced by different cultures: Cres belonged to France, Austria-Hungary, and for a long time to Italy, before becoming part of Yugoslavia after World War II. This diversity is still evident today in architecture and lifestyle.
The neighboring island of Lošinj is directly accessible via the bridge in Osor. It is known for its colorful nature, marinas, and popularity among sailors and divers. Around Cres and Lošinj, you also have a good chance of seeing dolphins in the wild – a real highlight.
Both islands are the perfect complement for anyone who wants to combine their party holiday at Zrce Beach with nature, culture, and a relaxed island atmosphere. We are, of course, happy to assist you with accommodation recommendations and tips.
