Juraj Dalmatinac
Helpful background, tips and explanations in detail.
Juraj Dalmatinac (also known as Giorgio da Sebenico, ca. 1400–1473) was one of the most significant architects and sculptors of the Croatian Renaissance. He hails from Zadar and became famous primarily for the construction of the Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Juraj Dalmatinac is of particular importance for the island of Pag: In the 15th century, he designed the urban layout of Pag Town, which has been preserved to this day in its geometric Renaissance structure. The symmetrically laid-out streets and the central square testify to his visionary urban planning.
Anyone visiting Zrce Beach should not miss a day trip to Pag Town. There, one can experience the architectural heritage of Juraj Dalmatinac up close – a fascinating contrast to the modern party life at Zrce Beach.
