Lošinj
If you are sitting on the promenade in Novalja, enjoying the sunset and wondering which large island is visible on the horizon – it is the island of Lošinj, also known as the “Dolphin Island”.
Lošinj is distinctly different from Pag or Cres: thanks to over 300 sunny days a year and a particularly mild climate, the island is green and colorful. Especially in spring and summer, the vegetation blooms and makes Lošinj a popular destination for nature lovers.
About 7,700 people live on the island, most of them in Mali Lošinj. The charming old town with its large harbor attracts numerous tourists and impressive yachts every year.
Lošinj is connected to the neighboring island of Cres by a drawbridge in Osor. The best way to reach the island by car is via a ferry from the mainland to Cres or from the island of Krk to Cres and then over the bridge to Lošinj.
The sea around Cres and Lošinj is known for its dolphin populations. To date, about 120 dolphins have been counted there, whose habitat extends far into the open sea. With a bit of luck, you might even see them during one of our party boat tours. Every year on the first Saturday in August, a dolphin festival is held on the island in honor of the animals.
