Illegal Buildings on Croatia's Coast — The Big Demolition and Its Consequences
In October 2025, Croatia's State Inspectorate (DIRH) ordered the demolition of 124 illegally constructed structures on Zrce Beach. What followed was the biggest shake-up in the history of the famous party beach.
A National Problem
The Zrce Beach demolitions are part of a nationwide campaign: since 2019, over 2,300 illegal structures have been removed across Croatia. The government aims to stop decades of unchecked construction along the Croatian coastline.
What Was Demolished on Zrce Beach
Not just small kiosks, but legendary venues were affected:
- NOA Beach Club — opened 2011, #10 DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs, 500,000+ visitors per season
- Rocks Club and Backstage Club
- Noa Glamping Resort
Estimated demolition costs: around 720,000 euros, to be paid by the property owners.
Impact on Festivals
The venue loss hits the festival scene hard. Sonus Festival had to cancel its 2026 edition. Germany Goes Zrce is on pause — officially due to rising costs, but the venue loss played a central role.
What Happens Next
Despite the demolitions, Zrce Beach remains Croatia's party capital. New clubs like Euphoria Beach Club are opening, established venues like Kalypso and Papaya are investing in expansions. The beach is being redesigned to be more modern and sustainable.
The 2026 season will be different — but the party goes on. Check out all current festivals here, and contact our team if you have any questions.
